What a night here is actually like
From the street you would walk straight past us. The door is at Lázaro Cárdenas 315B and the bar is one flight up. At the top the room opens out: a long bar, a small stage, La Catrina painted the length of the back wall, and a balcony with tables hanging over the Zona Romántica.
By the time the first set starts, the balcony is the best seat in the house. Some nights it is a singer working through Juan Gabriel in Spanish and Amy Winehouse in English, some nights it is free salsa lessons before the band, then cumbia, then mariachi, then a drag show. Most nights there is no cover, so you can come up the stairs, stand in the doorway, see what is on and decide.
Two honest things. Most of the bars on this street are at ground level and we are the floor above them, which is the whole reason the balcony works. It also means there is no elevator and the stairs are the only way in. And this is a cantina, not a cocktail lounge. It gets loud when the room fills up, a beer is 55 pesos, the house margarita is 150, and you do not need to dress up.

Week Schedule
Something is on six nights a week. Monday is the only night we are closed. A week at La Catrina Cantina moves through drag shows and cabaret, live salsa and cumbia with free beginner lessons before the band, mariachi and Mexican classics, solo singers and duos in Spanish and English, plus open mic and game nights on the patio. Sets start as early as 6:30pm and the late ones run past eleven. Most shows have no cover.
The cast rotates, so no two weeks look the same and last week’s lineup will not tell you tonight’s. The calendar below has what is on now, we post it on Instagram at @catrinacantinapv, and you can ask us on WhatsApp who is playing tonight.

What kind of place is La Catrina Cantina?
A live music bar, Mexican cantina and cabaret on the second floor at Lázaro Cárdenas 315B in the Zona Romántica, Puerto Vallarta. There is a stage, a full bar, food service, a patio and a balcony over the street. The programme runs from drag shows and cabaret to salsa, cumbia, mariachi, solo singers and open mic. Everyone is welcome.

Is there a cover charge?
Most shows have no cover, so you can come up the stairs, see who is playing and decide. A few things carry a small charge, for example the tango lessons on the patio at 100 pesos. Drinks are priced as normal: a beer is 55 pesos, the house margarita is 150, and the 24 ounce Catrina margarita served in a skull mug is 250. Private bookings and the VIP area are quoted separately.
