Drag Shows in Puerto Vallarta, Up Close
Queens, cabaret and a room small enough that the front row is part of the
act. Most nights, no cover.
Puerto Vallarta takes drag seriously. On any given week the
Zona Romántica has queens working half a dozen rooms, from big ticketed theatres to bars
where the stage is three feet from your table. La Catrina Cantina is firmly the second kind. We
are a Mexican cabaret on the second floor of Lázaro Cárdenas 315B, and our drag
nights are loud, close and, most of the time, free to walk into.
What our drag nights are actually like
The room is intimate. There is no distant stage and no bad seat, which changes the whole
character of a show: the queens work the crowd directly, and a night out here tends to end with
you having been spoken to, sung at, or briefly made part of the number.
The performers rotate. Around twenty local artists cycle through our stage across drag,
live singing, salsa and cabaret, so the lineup is different week to week. Some nights lean
comedy, some lean vocal performance, and some turn into a full dance floor once the show ends.
Most of our shows carry no cover. You come up the stairs, get a drink, and
find a spot on the balcony.

Where drag fits in a Vallarta night
Drag here is not one experience. Knowing which kind of night you want makes the choice easy.
| If you want | Go for | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| A drink, a show and a dance floor in one place | A cantina drag night like ours | Usually no cover |
| A named touring performer and a real theatre seat | A ticketed cabaret room | Ticketed, book ahead |
| Drag as part of a bigger night out | Start early, then walk the Zona | Varies by stop |
If you are planning a full evening, our
live music page maps the
walkable route, and our live music page covers
the nights when the stage belongs to a band instead.
Doors at 6pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Questions people ask
Where can I see a drag show in Puerto Vallarta?
The Zona Romántica is where almost all of them are. La Catrina Cantina at Lázaro
Cárdenas 315B runs drag and cabaret nights from 6pm, Tuesday through Sunday, usually with
no cover.
Is there a cover charge for drag shows?
At La Catrina, most shows have no cover. Larger ticketed theatres in the neighborhood
generally do charge and are worth booking ahead in high season.
Do I need a reservation?
Not usually. On winter weekends a table is worth reserving, especially on the balcony.
Message us on WhatsApp at +52 322 291 8777.
What time do drag shows start?
Our doors open at 6pm and shows run through the evening. Fridays and Saturdays we are open
until 2am. The exact start time depends on the night’s performer, posted on Instagram.
Are drag shows here in Spanish or English?
Both, often in the same set. Our performers move between Spanish and English, and the comedy
plays either way.
Who comes to your drag shows?
Everyone. Our rooms are a mix of locals and visitors, couples, groups of friends and plenty of first-timers. Drag here is a night out, not a members’ club, and all are welcome.
